Flock Management

The health of our flock is extremely important to us. We have a strict protocol for culling poor performance and we are very selective when purchasing new animals.

We usually lamb in February and March indoors and then have ewe lambs and ram lambs for sale during the summer months. Our ewe lambs are expected to lamb at a year of age and so are ready for breeding in September. Our lambing average is two and a half for mature ewes and ewe lambs come in at two. Our ewe lambs are generally excellent mothers with plenty of milk right from the start.

Our flock is rotationally grazed on pasture from May to October and fed hay and grain through the winter.

We use our wool to make wool comforters and yarn. And we also milk three of our ewes all summer and make cheese and yogurt for our family. Sheep milk is delicious! (Although we do not offer any for sale at this time.)
